What's New At The Knitting Hut?

In the last few weeks we have introduced two great new ranges at The Hut. GGH is a German company who produce some excellent pattern books (Ladies, Home and Kids) with up to date designs and an amazing range of yarns to support them. We are stocking part of their summer range and will have a larger range in the Autumn. Bergere de France is our other new supplier and to start off with we are stocking a range of their individual summer patterns and the yarns to go with them. The main reason we are stocking this company is that their patterns are available in sizes 10 to 16 and in some cases size 18. It is great to see a range of sizes like this and in addition the yarns are reasonably priced and look gorgeous! You can see more of what these companies offer on their websites - GGH - www.muenchyarns.com and Bergere de France - www.bergeredefrance.fr

Window Watch...

As promised, we are now getting into summer scarves and belts and have a selection at the shop. One of the scarves has been used as a belt for our model in the window, together with a really easy shrug cardigan using “Estivo” yarn which is made of cotton and microfibre and is incredibly soft. Estivo comes in plain and printed colours and the cardigan costs around £25 to make depending on which yarn you use.

Weird & Wonderful...

We have been loaned an amazing object which has been hand made by a very kind gentleman for his girlfriend. It is called a Knitting Stick and he saw it being demonstrated by a 92 year old lady in a Yorkshire village. Apparently it was traditionally made by men for their sweethearts and intricately carved to show their affection. What you do is hook the stick in your belt and slot a double pointed needle in the top and knit your socks in double quick time! We would be interested to know if anyone has seen this being used!

World Cup Fever

Whilst we are a World Cup Free Zone at The Hut, we have made a slight concession and produced a mini football kit for our Bear. The kit includes everything you need (just add knitting needles!) to make a football shirt which also has a number on the back (pick your favorite player, work out what number he is and follow the chart enclosed) and shorts using patriotic red and white. This outfit will make your bear very trendy for the next few weeks all at the bargain price of £2.50!

Website of the Month :: www.knittinghelp.com

This website is fabulous as it has video clips of knitting instructions. It covers getting started and basic techniques and also more advanced skills. It has a selection of great free patterns, a forum and even a section covering abbreviations and their explanations, some of which also have a video clip to help explain them! Again, this is an American website! If anyone knows of a great homegrown site, please let us know and we will feature it next month in the newsletter.
